The Fate of The Furious Second/Supercharged Trailer
Admirers of the Fast and Furious franchise scored an exceptional treat during Super Bowl LI, thanks to a new trailer that debuted during the huge game. The television spot presented a few previously unseen footage from the movie, which made it apparent that despite being the eighth film in the franchise, The Fate of the Furious isn’t expressing any indications of taking its foot off the accelerator.
Early in the film’s progression, Diesel hinted that The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen, who worked for release the franchise, might return to the director’s chair for the eighth installment. However, he formally announced F. Gary Gray as the film’s director on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon October 14, 2015. Gray swaps with James Wan (Furious 7) and turns into the newest name included to the superb list of Fast and Furious filmmakers over the years - a list that also includes Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6) along with Academy Award nominee John Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious).
Coming back once again to the character of Dominic Toretto is Vin Diesel, who has made an appearance in some form (whether as a major character or just in a cameo) in six of the seven movies in the franchise. Others returning include main characters Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges). Supporting roles Tego Leo (Tego Calderon), Rico Santos (Don Omar), Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) and the inexplicable CIA operative Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) are also slated to come back for The Fate of the Furious. The latest installment of the Fast and the Furious series embraces two Oscar-winning stars. Academy Award winner Charlize Theron (Monster, Mad Max: Fury Road) will perform the film’s main villain, Cipher, a criminal mastermind who in some way manages to convert Dominic Toretto towards his longtime members including his wife, Letty . Also making her introduction in the series is another Academy Award winner, Helen Mirren (The Queen, The Last Station), who will perform an unidentified character in the film. She’s joined by Gran Torino actor Scott Eastwood, who will act as protege of Russell’s black ops agent.
Who Won't Be There
Franchise star Paul Walker’s death in November 2013 in the end forced the Furious 7 team to use a mixture of digital effects and body acts - including Walker’s brothers Caleb and Cody - to accomplish his part of the film, and his character was given an emotional send-off in the movie’s final scene.
The absence of Brian in the movie also means that actress Jordana Brewster’s part, Mia Toretto, isn’t expected to make an appearance. Brian’s wife and Dominic Toretto’s sister, Mia will seemingly join her husband in moving on from their high-octane adventures.
